The recently released album Sounds of Eggenberg, featuring Valdemar Villadsen as a soloist with ÄrtHouse 17 under the direction of Michael Hell, has been nominated for an International Classical Music Award (ICMA) in the category Baroque Vocal Album of the Year.

In December, Valdemar Villadsen achieved notable success in a series of acclaimed performances of Handel’s Messiah with Camerata Copenhagen in Copenhagen.
In Politiken, music critic Thomas Michelsen highlighted the exceptional musical level of the performances, singling out Villadsen as a “remarkably agile and soaring tenor soloist” with complete command of the ornamentation and stylistic nuances of 18th-century vocal music. With an established international career, Villadsen brought both virtuosity and flair to the performances, impressively adding extra high notes where musically appropriate—an approach that perfectly embodied the spirit of artistic confidence and brilliance.

Valdemar received outstanding reviews for his leading role in Bernard Foccroulle’s Cassandra at the Staatsoper Berlin (Berlin State Opera). Critics praised his performance in glowing terms, describing it as “stunning” and “excellent,” and highlighting his strong stage presence, musical authority, and expressive depth in this critically acclaimed production.
See the trailer below.

In the 2025/26 season, Valdemar will focus primarily on album recordings. Following several successful yet very busy years with extensive professional commitments, he has chosen to prioritize his children and family. Based in Berlin, he will place much of his solo recording activity there in order to remain close to them. Alongside his recording projects, he will maintain a selective schedule of live appearances during the season and will return to full opera and performance activity in the following season.

Danish tenor Valdemar Villadsen graduated from the soloist class at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. He has since established himself as an in-demand tenor throughout Europe.

Engagements have brought Valdemar to the Staatsoper Berlin - Unter den Linden, Royal Opera House La Monnaie in Brussels, Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, Wiesbaden State Opera, Berliner Philharmonie, and the Royal Albert Hall.

Being a very versatile high tenor, Valdemar regularly performs music by Bach, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Rameau, Lully, Charpentier, Purcell, Monteverdi, Haydn, Mozart, as well as numerous contemporary composers.

As a kid I wanted to be an actor. I was a nerdy kid – a Shakespeare fan. When I was twelve I performed Hamlet on my paper theatre in its original length: five hours (shortening would have been, of course, cheating!). Without my mom's homemade cookies, it would have been a traumatising experience for the incarcerated...
